As Styled By - Loni Parker at The Pocketland

Meet Loni Parker - the founder and editor of Adore Home Magazine, Australia's beloved interiors publication celebrating beautiful, colourful and contemporary homes. Since launching Adore in 2010, Loni has become one of Australia's most trusted voices in interior design, with a keen eye for layering, colour and considered styling.

For this instalment of our As Styled By series, Loni turned her eye to the guestroom of Alex and Alana, the couple behind @thepocketland - a hinterland farmhouse on Jinibara Country that the pair have been lovingly adding character to, one room at a time. Photographed by @zeidler.photo, the shoot features two pieces from our Rekindle collection: the Chloe Bedside in walnut and the French Bench in walnut.

We recently touched base with Loni to ask her a few questions about the styling of this room:

When you first walked into Alex and Alana's guestroom, what struck you about the space and how did that shape where you took it?

The space had great bones – lovely dark timber floorboards, and a beautiful timber window with bushland views. We further enhanced the look of this bedroom by layering in extra pieces of furniture and new bedding.

Can you walk us through your colour palette choices for the room? What drew you to those tones, and how did they connect with the character of the home?

The bed was already existing and I wanted to bring in pieces of furniture that were complimentary to the home’s farmhouse aesthetic. I was instantly drawn to Rekindle’s ‘Chloe’ bedside table in walnut and ‘The French Bench’ in walnut as both worked in well with not only the flooring but also the bed. I love the classic design of both pieces and knew it worked with the overall style of Alana and Alex’s gorgeous home.

I also brought in a lovely blue stripe quilt and pillowcases. There are a couple of other rooms in the home that feature duck-egg blue paint, so I knew this would also tie back in to those spaces when thinking about it from an editorial styling point of view. Blue and walnut work so beautifully together, I left the photoshoot wanting it all for my own home!

Layering a bedroom is such an art - how do you personally approach building up a room, and what does that process look like for you?

I think it always starts with good furniture, and then layering in your bedding, along with lighting (like a lovely bedside lamp or wall sconces). From there books and fresh flowers are my go-to for bedside styling. I typically would add cushions to a bed, however with this particular room the quilt pattern was the star of the show so I decided to keep it simple.

What drew you to Rekindle’s walnut collection when you were styling this space?

I was drawn to the depth of colour in the walnut pieces – it was just right for working in with the home’s dark timber floorboards. I wanted to complement the home too so chose pieces that are classic in design.

See the space in its entirety in the next issue of Adore Home Magazine, out 1 June 2026. For more styling inspiration visit adoremagazine.com
