For Emma Fuller, Hamptons style is about much more than crisp whites and coastal details. Through Hamptons in Highfields, Emma shares her love of classic Hamptons interiors and her own approach to creating a home that feels relaxed, welcoming and personal.

Her home brings together the hallmarks of the style with a softer, more lived-in feel. Natural timber, gentle coastal tones and classic furniture shapes sit alongside pieces that have been chosen slowly and intentionally.

It was this approach that led Emma to our Chloé Console Table and Sophie Side Table, both in oak. The warm timber brings another layer of texture and character to her interiors, while the classic silhouettes sit naturally within her Hamptons-inspired rooms.

We asked Emma to share her thoughts on creating a Hamptons home that feels beautiful, welcoming and, most importantly, personal.

What makes a Hamptons-style home feel like a Hamptons home? What are the essential elements you always come back to? Are there particular colours, materials, furniture shapes or details that you think define the style?

For me, it’s the feeling you get when you walk through the door. There’s a lightness and a sense of calm, but also comfort. It should feel inviting, somewhere you can put your feet up and spend time with the people you love.

I always come back to soft whites, gentle blues, natural timber and woven textures. Classic furniture shapes, beautiful mouldings and details like stripes help bring it all together. I love that these elements have a timeless quality, so you can keep adding to your home without feeling you need to start again whenever trends change.

How do you keep Hamptons style feeling warm and relaxed rather than too polished?For anyone who loves the Hamptons look but doesn't want their home to feel overly formal or “done”, what would you suggest?

I think warmth comes from allowing your home to feel lived in. We have three children and two dogs, so comfort and practicality are very much part of how I style our home. I want it to look beautiful, but everyone needs to feel comfortable enjoying it.

Timber, baskets, soft cushions and flowers all help soften a room. I also love displaying family photographs. Those personal touches deserve a place alongside the beautiful things.

My advice would be to leave room for everyday life. A favourite book on a side table or a throw draped over the sofa can make a space feel welcoming without everything needing to be perfectly arranged.

You recently shared that you want your home to feel “collected over time rather than simply decorated”. How do you achieve that?

What do you look for when choosing furniture and other pieces for your home, and how do you know when something feels right?

I try to give myself time to find pieces I really love. You don’t need to fill every space straight away. Sometimes living with an empty corner for a while helps you understand what belongs there.

I’m drawn to pieces with character, whether that’s a beautiful timber finish, a classic shape or a vintage find with a little history. I love mixing those pieces with newer furniture and things that are meaningful to our family. That’s what gives a home its own personality.

When I’m choosing something, I ask myself whether I’ll still love it in years to come and whether it works with the pieces I already treasure. The right piece often feels familiar quite quickly, as though it has always belonged.

You chose the Chloé Console and Sophie Side Table in oak for your home. What drew you to these pieces? And what do you think natural oak brings to a Hamptons-style interior?

It was the combination of their classic shapes and the warmth of the oak. They have that timeless character I’m always drawn to, and I could picture them sitting beautifully alongside the pieces already in our home.

I love furniture that feels special while still being easy to live with. The Chloé Console and Sophie Side Table have that lovely balance, and they fit naturally with the collected feeling I want to create.

Natural oak brings warmth and texture to a light interior. Against soft whites and blues, it gives the room a little depth, and the grain adds another layer of interest. For me, that balance of light colours and warm timber is a big part of making Hamptons style feel like home.

If someone wanted to bring more Hamptons style into their home, where would you suggest they start? Are there any simple changes, styling ideas or pieces you think can make the biggest difference?

I’d start with one room and build on what you already have. A few thoughtful changes can make a lovely difference: cushions in soft blues or a classic stripe, a woven basket, a lamp with a fabric shade and some flowers or greenery.

Think about texture as much as colour. Even a mostly white room feels warmer when you bring in timber, linen and woven materials. Lamps also make such a difference to how welcoming a room feels in the evening.

If you’re buying furniture, start with one classic piece you genuinely love and can imagine keeping for years. Let the room grow around it. The most beautiful homes have a sense of the people who live there, so make space for your photographs, favourite books and treasured finds too.
